The Phamile Foundation – News Update 3/1/13

Andy ClavinAndrew Clavin has funded Project #13.2: a couple sets of Kitchen Supplies – this helps supply sets of basic kitchen needs for cooking.  Andy has previously funded a project at the Steng Mean Chey “Dump” Orphanage  in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  His ongoing support and those of past donors means a great deal to us and we don’t take their trust for granted.

I choose to support The Phamile Foundation because it strives to help the poorest and the most innocent in this world without waste or misuse or charitable donations.  The Foundation’s unyielding support of impoverished orphans gives hope and concrete aid to a largely neglected segment of society.  The Foundation’s founder, Tom Love, is an honorable man whom I have known closely for several years.  I have full confidence in the foundation’s resolute and sincere dedication in bettering orphans’ lives, because I know that passion resonates in Tom.  I specifically chose to fund the kitchen supplies project because the orphans are growing children, who require solid nutrition and the means to prepare basic meals.–Andy Clavin

Background:

Over 200,000 refugees line the borders of Thailand and Burma, held in refugee camps that can barely manage to provide for basic necessities. Tens of thousands of these refugees are children – children who have been traumatized by the ongoing war waged by the Burmese military dictatorship against the regions hill-tribes. Here they end up in the camps or living illegally along the border regions, at huge risk of being taken into the sex trade, suffering malnourishment and other ongoing threats to their well being and lives. In addition to basic necessities like shelter, clothes, food and education, children also need hope, joy and play.

The orphans survive by wading through the mounds of garbage for recyclable plastic which unfortunately doesn’t get them enough to even get enough food or water let alone shelter etc so we want to call on donors to help us make a big difference in these children’s lives!

Our goal is to help by teaming with local volunteers some of whom we’ve previously partnered with to begin making a real difference starting at the Mae Sot Landfill and surrounding areas.

We will also be looking to potentially use these and other funds at an Orphanage near Thai-Muang, Phang Nga Province (80 km North of Phuket), Thailand.  There are several orphanages in the area referred to as “Tsunami Orphanages” that were established or increased significantly in size in the waked of the devastating Tsunami that hit this area in 2004 .  We will be posting more after site inspections in early April.
